When Darkness Falls
by Mychael Black
Jordan Shields is an elf, and like many of his kind is living integrated in mainstream America. He teaches Elven history at a local community college, and occasionally gets together with his friend Matt if he gets lonely. Since elves mate for life, before they meet their one and only all relationships are casual. Few know though that elves need the heat generated from sex to be able to stay comfortably warm. Jordan is not looking for his lifemate, but fate has other ideas.
Dorian is an ancient vampire who has not known real love since the one who made him was killed. He owns and operates a dance club called appropriately Elixir. He is looking for a mate, but he has a friendship/relationship with Joseph who he uses both for food and sex, with Joseph's consent of course. He gets the shock of his life the first time he sees Jordan in his club, and realizes who he is to him.
When Dorian and Jordan first meet, despite Jordan's doubts they have sex right away. However, Jordan cannot handle the quickness of events nor the instant soul connection with Dorian and quickly leaves. He eventually returns, unable to stay away later that day, but this creates further problems for them for Jordan does not know what Dorian is, or about Joseph. When Joseph's brother Carl starts creating problems for Dorian, it becomes imperative that Dorian retreat to Italy, and he wants Jordan to go with him. Will Jordan be able to accept Dorian? Will they be able to work out their differences? What about the dark secret in Dorian's past that comes back to haunt him?
The author has created an alternate universe where elves, vampires and other things that go bump in the night are integrated into present day society. He does a great job of portraying this in the story, and there are few if any inconsistencies. The sex is hotter than hot, but if you have a problem with alternative lifestyles or multiple partners this is not the book for you. Having elements of a romantic suspense When Darkness Falls has all the great qualities a reader would enjoy in such a book. The love between Jordan and Dorian is real and palpable making this book a keeper. If you enjoy erotica mixed with your paranormal romance then this is the book for you, and I highly recommend it.
