Problem is, whether more 'tolerant' religions are so depends upon the culture of those practicing that you have contact with. Even Buddhist cultures can have strangely backwards views on sexuality, though obviously this may have less to do with religious precepts and moreso the prejudices of those the practise the faith.

Active Buddhist here; and there is no persecution of gay people in Buddhism.
The five rules are; no killing, no stealing, no misuse of sex, no intoxicants, no misuse of drugs, no lying.

No misuse of sex: This essentially rape, bestiality, etc.

If there is any doubt in whether something is or is not correct in the eyes of Buddhism we always refer back to the golden rule: "No pain or suffering to yourself or others." - So does being gay cause pain or suffering? Well, yes, but then you apply more lube ^_^

Hinduism is a hypocritical religion in that sense. They have sculptures and historical monuments depicting homosexual acts and also have written the 'kamasutra' but on the other hand they tend to consider it bad, where I live people are more homo-ignorant than homo-phobic. They either ignore homosexuality as a possibility or think of it as a mental disorder. Though scriptures have suggested that Hindus in Vedic time were more tolerant of homosexuals and even worshipped them. They had a 'third' gender of transsexuals back then which was considered divine.

I personally am agnostic, when you belong to a religious Hindu family you are expected/encouraged to pray to variety of deities which can be annoying.
