you dont say where you are, but in most capitals you have website for gays: thats like a webdating site but for friends, like a mini facebook, and the good thing is people from that website meet in real life , like every week they drink and go to some restaurant to have dinner, they do monthly soirée, and such, this way it's easy to meet people and it's great for gays who are anxious, because you have young, old, any kind of guys it's not about dating it's about having a drink , talking about your life blabla.. the fact that it's a website it's easier, you first talk online and when you feel more confident you can join them at a bar.

I have some agoraphobia, anxiety, and avoidant personality disorder. Very difficult finding guys and can be pretty depressing, but I've been teaching myself to go out a bit each day and try at least… not sure I'm date material yet but working on it

Hey there.  I also have agoraphobia, which is rare enough, but I have Avoidant Personality Disorder, too.  I'm glad you are working on going outside.  You're in therapy, right?  Personality disorders are SOOO hard to overcome.

I think that my AVPD caused my agoraphobia.  My fear of being ridiculed or mocked became so strong, I stopped going to places where that might happen.  Now, that is not a professional diagnosis.  Just a personal belief.

Anyway, I wish you success in your efforts to overcome this (to me) debilitating disorder.

The goal is to not have heroes.

Essentially self-prescribed treatment. The act of actually seeking out treatment is incredibly intimidating to me. I know you shouldn't self diagnose but I've never read about something and thought "that's 100% me" like I have with AvPD. I got super emotional when researching it as it pretty much explains my entire existence. I have made efforts to work on it in the past but then completely regressed. You are so right, it's extremely difficult to overcome! Recently I've tried a bit harder, with loneliness starting to really hurt. I've started to feel like the clock is ticking on my life and I haven't experienced so many things. The next step might be therapy but I don't know how to cross that bridge.

Your theory on the agoraphobia makes total sense, by the way. The fear of rejection starts to become a fear of any public place or activity. It's completely debilitating.

Thank you for the kind words and I wish you the best as well!

Chatrooms have always seemed safer to me and I too would rather talk to people online. I only meet with two of my friends with whom I feel absolutely safe and they usually come around to my place and we hang out. But recently I talked to this guy on facebook, and we really hit it off, and we decided to meet at a cafe. I was very anxious and when he came I realised he was nervous too. Somehow we really connected and we talked a bit and just sitting there we texted each other on watsapp; it was nice. Now we talk a lot more on watsapp and he has come to my place as well and I am very lucky that I found him.
