Internet speed
-
what speed are people using on their home pc's? i have a very slow line so can only upload small folders
-
Oh the controversial stuff
I get 100 Mbps from my cable provider because it was a special deal at the time. They have offered me 152 Mbps for the price of a new router but I haven't bothered as I only use one connection here at home.
But in all this mega-boosting their upload limit has remained at 5 Mbps for years.

thats amazing! we have only started to implement cable here in SA, so have yet to experience that speed!
hope you enjoy it man that rocks!!! -
I have optical fiber at 500Mo/s down, and 200Mo/s Up.( only cost about 45 euros/month but those fuckers wont provide static ips nor personalized reverse dns).
-
very slow

I get a 100Mbps symmetrical. It's nice. It used to be hard to take advantage of that speed but a lot os servers are catching up. I can't wait for gigabit internet to be more widely available though.
-
recently 50 MBit down and 10 MBit upstream
-
Just had a free upgrade to 70mbs down and 5Mbs up.

as I said above I have 500M down and 200Mbps up.(thats even faster than most colocation/dedicated server in datacenter) But honestly it's not really useful for gaytorrents.ru, because one should always use a peerblocker to limit people connecting to your computer. I block about 3 billions IP ( most non occidental countries of course only on ports different than 80-443 ). the great thing with high bandwith is if you do have dedicated servers you can connect to them and make huge backup at the same speed an external drive on usb 2.0 would run: you can save money for not having to install a NAS in the datacenter to backup your servers or pay for backup in datacenter as you can do it from home. It's also very nice for stock exchange as the ping between europeans capitals is under 10ms hence you can have a fast trading robot on your own computer without connecting to a dedicated server, or if you do , you can control your dedicated server as fast as if it was a virtual appliance under your own host: you can even connect an external hard drive on your computer and map it as a local drive on your server : it's almost as fast as if it was a real local drive: that's so great !
I dont play game but I think very fast ping is great for them as well.
For torrents on gaytorrent even with such an high bandwidth I rarely download above 10MB/s ( that means around 100Mbps) and the upload is also rarely above 2MB/s ( that means around 20Mbps), and that's about the same on public torrents, other private trackers , while server to server even thousands miles away I full throttle the bandwidth. When I try to download torrents from a dedicated server in a datacenter I also get about the same speed. I'm sure you can tweak it to make it faster I'm just reporting normal use (I also dont pick very popular torrents most of the time). So dont worry if you only have 100Mbps down or up as above is not really needed on torrents peering and it's well enough to keep a good ratio. -
2Mb download. SO SLOWWWW i am suffering :cry2:

I am in Santiago, Chile and I have 120 mb connection for about 40$ a month. They just increased the top speed to 160.

I'm stuck on a 4.20mbit / 660kbit connection… Can I move in with you? LOL

I'm not sure where my speeds stack up. Just did a speedtest and I get 56.49Mbs Download and 26.55Mbs Upload.

Australia is fairly slow on the uptake , but you have to realise that its a big arse place with billions and billions of dollars needed to upgrade to FTTP and FTTN
so to compare it to say UK or EU would be like comparing an apple to a zucchini
