HBO Cancels "Looking"
-
From Huffingtonpost.com (aka "Huffpoo") today:
As its small pool of viewers expected, "Looking" will not receive a third season. The dramedy, which chronicles a group of gay pals in San Francisco, will instead bow with a "special," HBO announced Wednesday.
Following two seasons of low ratings, author Kevin Sessums took to Facebook on Tuesday to say the show's star, Jonathan Groff, had informed him HBO would make a "Looking" movie in lieu of renewing the show. The network's official statement, released the morning after Sessums' revelation, reads thusly:
After two years of following Patrick and his tight-knit group of friends as they explored San Francisco in search of love and lasting relationships, HBO will present the final chapter of their journey as a special. We look forward to sharing this adventure with the shows loyal fans.
Sunday's season finale pulled in a paltry 298,000 viewers, a steep dip from the 425,000 people who tuned in for last year's closer. HBO, whose subscription-based services ensure it is not as dependent on overnight ratings as advertising-reliant broadcast networks, has proven that earning a third season is a show's true test. The acclaimed Laura Dern vehicle "Enlightened" was axed after its second run, while six final episodes will usher out the similarly low-rated "Getting On" later this year. "Hello Ladies," on the other hand, lasted one season before also receiving a television movie.

That's sad, I really like the show.
-
It wasn't a bad show, even though sometimes I wanted to slap the guys.
But 1/2 hour never gave it a chance.
-
I really liked Looking.
-
Oh man! I really liked this show! :cry2:
-
At least we are getting a final movie/extended episode to bring some closure to the characters.
I thoroughly enjoyed all of the episodes so far - the slow pace was a refreshing change and I did engage with the characters. (And who doesn't love a bit of naked Tovey)
So not a surprise, but still a shame!
-
Sounds like the show got a fair chance.
-
I loved "Looking." I'm really sad they didn't get a 3rd Season.
-
Was it good?
-
I thought so. For me, it seemed like real relationships and challenges. The acting and storylines were superb.
-
omg!!!
-
I thought the show was only okay. Not sure exactly why it wasn't great, but I felt like the story at times lacked depth and just wasn't all that interesting. I was rooting for it, so this is sad.

HBO did give it a fair chance by ordering season 2, but it was the kinda of show that didnt inspire a lot of fan base and love in my opinion
I watched the 1st seaosn with my ex and i didnt really connect with the characters on the show, i really didnt give a crap about what happened to them, season 2 i wasnt even watching to be honest.Hope HBO develop some new "gay" series soon, that has the charm queer as folk had, with the realness factor of looking
-
have never watched it,anyway..
-
I didn't think it was that great. I i only watched a couple episodes in the first season but I didn't like the writing. It seems like they were talking about nothing half the time. Idk.
-
Don't remember me of this
:blownose: :blownose: :blownose: -
Love "Looking", because this series shows us the really and normal gay love in our lives. We all have faced the situation about looking the right person. So say to hear this bad news. Hope the movie can give us a happy ending.

That's sad, I really like the show. I hate HBO…

Im not really a big fan of US formats , i think the British Series runs are far better than umpteen US style seasons that usually jump the shark anyways ( QAF US vs the far superior UK original case in point)
its getting a movie tie up as a finale , but do we really need to see season after season of one show ??

:cry2: Damn, really like the show. I guess all tv shows have to end sometime..
