I am using linux ubuntu because its free and you dont have to pay for updates unlike windows and it does not get viruses that easily

I would be embarassed to admit how long I used Windows 2000 for (I still have my first home pc, still has 2000 on it and am still able to do a surprising amount with it when in a pinch) but eventually I inherited a Mac & although I drank the blue kool aid I never actually swallowed.  Then in one of my flighty moments I thought myself bilingual because I was able to achieve what I wanted in both Windows & Mac so I expressed an interest in Ubuntu to the right friend and haven't looked back since.

Although I am rather fond of Android as well (since getting tablets) but then I also find the two quite similiar.

Also feel I've done my part by converting my brother to Ubuntu in less than 30 minutes.

I too have migrated from the world of Windows to Ubuntu some time ago and have never bothered to look back. Given the more advanced firewall options that you can create yourself, it's much easier to secure a network when running it behind something like Ubuntu than it is to directly expose a Windows base computer directly to the internet.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one on this site who seems to have taken to that switch to make it over to the world of Ubuntu.

I am very familiar with the blue screen of death & the spinning beach ball of death so I know I am tempting the fickle finger of fate to massage my prostate but is there an equivalent in our little corner of the operating systems play pen?

FreeBSD/PCBSD, especially for the benefits of ZFS.

Ubuntu is a nice OS, but since there is no software it doesn't do much good. I kind of need Photoshop (Gimp has an interface from hell, it is not just not user-friendly, it is user-hostile), then I wanna have Illustrator and In Design. There are some pro and cons with Mac OS X and Windows, but mostly it has to do with available software.

Did you know that you can actually roll Ubuntu back to the original Gnome interface? It's actually quite easy to do. Simply open a Terminal window and run the following command:

                        sudo apt-get -y install gnome-session-fallback

Once done, simply logout, then click the little icon in the top right of the password box to change the login session from Unity to Gnome Metacity and magically, you're all setup back in the original Gnome interface.

Mine is Mac OS which of course is essentially BSD Unix with lots of extras on top.

I have a lot of time for Linux too - my favourite flavour is probably Ubuntu, probably because I've used that more than the others.
